Ayersville Can’t Catch Up To Hilltop
Ayersville fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 20-11 loss to Hilltop on Friday. Hilltop scored on a walk by Sara Barnum in the first inning, a home run by Haley Stephens in the second inning, a home run by Kodi Brenner in the second inning, and a home run by Lana Baker in the second inning.
Despite the loss, Ayersville did collect ten hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Hilltop had 16 hits on the way to victory.
After Hilltop scored three runs in the top of the sixth, Ayersville answered with three of their own. Hilltop scored when an error scored one run for Hilltop, Baker’s sac fly scored one run for Hilltop, and Barnum’s sac fly scored one run for Hilltop. Ayersville then answered when Aubrey Florence doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run and Chloe Bowen homered on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.
Hilltop took the lead for good with six runs in the second inning. In the second Stephens homered on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs, Brenner homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, and Baker hit a solo homer.
Maddie Schaper led the Hilltop to victory in the circle. She went two and a third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits. Brenner threw four and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Florence took the loss for Ayersville . She allowed seven hits and six runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one.
Ayersville launched one home run on the day. Bowen had a homer in the sixth inning.
Ayersville tallied ten hits. Kryshel Dales, Florence, Kourtney Lindeman, and Hailey Johnson each racked up multiple hits for Ayersville . Dales went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Ayersville in hits.
Hilltop collected 16 hits. Brenner, Alex Horton, Holly Jermeay, Katelynn Smith, Stephens, and Schaper each collected multiple hits for Hilltop. Hilltop tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Jermeay led the way with two.
